Fundraiser set for family of Kan. swine flu victim

Eds: APNewsNow.

MAYETTA, Kan. (AP) -- A softball tournament is being held to raise money for the family of a northeast Kansas mother of three who died from swine flu.

Thirty-year-old Stephanie Conway Alfrey of Mayetta died Sept. 23 from the H1N1 virus.

Alfrey's friends organized the tournament, to be held Oct. 10 and 11 at Dornwood Park in Topeka.

Friends say Alfrey's three children played on teams at the park, and Alfrey was a member of the Highland Park Baseball Association.

Organizers are looking for eight men's teams and eight mixed teams to play in the tournament. The registration fees and concession sales will go to help the family with funeral and medical expenses.
