State audits Kan. high school group
Eds: APNewsNow. Moving on general news and sports services.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A state audit has found that Kansas high schools get to keep a much smaller percentage of gate receipts for athletic events than most schools in surrounding states.
The review of the Kansas State High School Activities Association was released Wednesday. It found that host schools get to keep 30 percent of the ticket revenue. Other states allow schools to keep all of it.
Kansas lawmakers called for the audit following complaints about how the association shares revenue, as well as its restrictions on athletes.
The association limits athletes from traveling more than 500 miles outside of Kansas. Of the six states compared with Kansas, only Iowa limited travel for regulated activities.
