Brownback manager: Demo gov hopeful 'fraud'

Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Republican Sam Brownback's campaign manager is calling the presumed Democratic nominee for governor a fraud.

Brownback campaign manager David Kensinger made the statement Friday after meeting with reporters about a federal lawsuit in California involving Democratic candidate Tom Wiggans.

The recently settled lawsuit accused Wiggans and other executives of a company Wiggans once led of misleading investors. The company, Connetics Corp., of Palo Alto., Calif., also was a defendant, along with Wiggans and others.

In the settlement, the defendants agreed to pay nearly $12.8 million, plus interest.

Wiggans adviser Amy Jordan Wooden did not immediately return a telephone message Friday. But she has said there was no finding of wrongdoing in the case.
