Ag Hall of Fame looks to cultivate attendance

Eds: RESTORES lost word in lede. APNewsNow. Will be led.

BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) -- The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs is taking steps to boost attendance and avoid having to close its doors.

The Kansas City Star reports that the nation's official agricultural center was considering closing and going online earlier this year after attendance fell to about a third of what the center needs. The center turns 50 next summer.

Center officials took some drastic steps this month. The board of directors was replaced and the center's six employees were terminated, including the executive director.

The center normally closes during the winter. Officials said they hope that when the center reopens next spring, it will be stronger and have a plan for raising revenue.
