Prairie Band golf course planned
Eds: APNewsNow.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- The Prairie Band Potawatomi tribe is going into the golf course business.
The tribe will launch its plans with a program at 11 a.m. Monday at the Prairie Band Casino and Resort. The proposed 18-hole course will be located across the street from the casino on reservation land north of Topeka.
The course is being designed by a firm owned by Notah Begay III, the only American Indian on the PGA tour.
The Prairie Band casino will be the only one in the area to have a golf course and comes as there's renewed efforts to have a state-owned casino in Wyandotte County and another in Sumner County.
There are three other tribal casinos on reservation land in northeast Kansas and four casinos in Kansas City, Mo.
