Police: Man committed suicide during police chase

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Pottawatomie County authorities say a 23-year-old man shot himself to death during a multi-county police chase early Tuesday.

The incident started late Monday when the sheriff's office got a report of a man driving a car black Grand Prix who was possibly armed and making suicidal threats.

The man sped off when Marshall County authorities tried to stop him about 2:30 a.m. After a chase through Wamego and Westmoreland in Pottawatomie County. After stop sticks were used in Westmoreland, the car rolled to a stop. Officers the man dead inside the car, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Pottawatomie County authorities said the man made several calls during the chase to tell people he was going to kill himself.
