2 Kansas racetracks face uncertain future
Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- The futures of two small-town Kansas racetracks are uncertain as revenues continue to dwindle.
Stephen Martino, executive director of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission in Topeka, says Eureka Downs and Anthony Downs will likely become "collateral damage" in the collapse of Kansas' racing industry.
The tracks depended on state tax money generated from simulcasting.
But Wichita Greyhound Park and The Woodlands dog and horse track near Kansas City have both closed.
Dan Bird of Anthony Downs, located in south central Kansas, says he's relatively sure the track will close.
