Kan. delegation mixed on detainee prison
Eds: APNewsNow.
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback say they are relieved that suspected terrorist detainees won't be coming to Kansas. And they still think bringing the detainees to the United States is a bad idea.
The two Republicans said Tuesday that President Barack Obama's decision to send the detainees to an Illinois prison was good news to Kansas. At one point, the administration was considering transferring some of the detainees to the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth.
But the senators have received assurances that a move to Kansas wouldn't take place.
Roberts and Brownback say moving detainees to the United States creates more risk for the public with no clear gain.
