Kan. governor pleads for toys

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Parkinson is giving $1,000 to help replace gifts for children that were stolen from the Wichita Toys for Tots campaign.
The governor says Monday that he and First Lady Stacy Parkinson were making the gift and encouraging others to donate to replace the toys. He is confident enough will be raised to replace the toys in time for Christmas.
About 1,000 toys were stolen and hundreds others intended for needy children were damaged.
Parkinson says the thefs are "about as low as you can get."
The governor made the comments as his staff donated several toys and electronics to the Topeka Toys for Tots drive, a campaign by the Marines to give toys to needy children across the country.
