LIEBENTHAL -- On July 4, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal joined with churches all across America to ring the bells for religious freedom and offer prayers for the country.
Parishioners were invited to attend a bell-ringing at precisely 9 a.m., in unison with church bells across the country. Those who came were invited to go to the balcony and enter the "bell tower" to learn how the church bells are rung.
The three ropes connect to three different sized bells, and there's a trick to getting them all to make the beautiful sounds of these bells in harmony.
After ringing the bells for five minutes, all took part in an hour of prayer for our country and singing patriotic songs.
The event was sponsored by Churches for Freedom and organized and conducted by Dominican Associate Judy Hoffman. Duane Legleiter gave the lessons on ringing the bells.
Fourteen parishioners participated in the prayer hour.
