Special to The Hays Daily news
RUSSELL -- National radio talk-show host and author Teresa Tomeo will speak at Saint Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Russell Aug. 25 and 26.
On Aug. 25, Tomeo will be the keynote speaker at the bi-annual Salina Diocesan Council of Catholic Women's Convention. On Aug. 26, she will speak at the Salina Diocese's Respect Life Conference.
Tomeo's daily morning radio program, "Catholic Connection," can be heard locally on KVDM 88.1 FM in Hays and on KQSH 90.7 FM in Dodge City.
In both talks, Tomeo will draw from her personal testimony as well as her work as a Catholic journalist.
Tomeo's SDCCW's talk is titled, "Handmaids of the Lord: Rediscovering the Dignity of Women." In this presentation, Tomeo will show the depth, beauty and truth in the Catholic Church's teaching on women. Her talk will help women examine more closely the roles they play in the modern Catholic Church. At the SDRLC's Conference, Tomeo's talk is titled, "Bringing America Back to Life," which will take a critical look at today's mainstream media.
As one of only 250 women in the world invited to Rome to take part in a Vatican congress on women, Tomeo shares her insights from the historic 2008 Rome gathering focusing on how the Catholic teachings represent real freedom for daughters of God.
"The secular media has set stereotypes on what the church teaches about the roles of women in the world and the church," said SDCCW moderator Father Damian Richards. "Like most stereotypes, they are highly inaccurate. Ms. Tomeo's talks help cut through those misconceptions and show the beauty and power which underlies church teaching."
