EL DORADO -- Eddie Carl's string of quality starts ended Tuesday night against Jayhawk League leader El Dorado, and so did the Hays Larks' season-high six-game winning streak.

El Dorado shut out Hays 5-0 and is now 28-7 overall and 21-7 in the Jayhawk. Hays (17-11 overall, 11-10 Jayhawk) is in third place, trailing El Dorado and second-place Derby.

Carl (3-3) had delivered three straight quality starts before Tuesday. He gave up five runs -- four earned -- in six innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. El Dorado scored four runs in the first with the help of three Hays errors -- two by Carl.

Broncos starter Chris Craycraft pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits, for the victory. Two relievers combined to give up three hits in finishing the shutout, the first time this season the Larks have failed to score.

Brandon Eckerle went 4-for-4 for Hays.

The two teams are scheduled to conclude the two-game series tonight at El Dorado.
