DERBY -- The Hays Larks lost, 9-8, to the Derby Twins on Friday night. Derby broke a 8-8 tie with a run in the bottom of the 10th inning off an error, a stolen base and a single. Hays is now 13-6 overall, 9-5 in the Jayhawk League. Mark Phillips (1-1) suffered the loss for the Larks.
Andrew Heck started the game and worked seven innings, permitting 11 hits and seven runs (no earned) against six strikeouts and one walk. The Larks made three errors in the game, compared to one for Derby. In the third and sixth, Derby took advantage of an error to score three and four runs, respectively. The Larks scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth. Hays hit five homers -- by Cam Brown, Ollie Goulder, Sloan Soulia and two from Larry Rodriguez.
Derby tied the game with a run in the ninth on a single and a double before scoring the game-winning run in the 10th.
