For the first time in its last four outings, the Thomas More Prep-Marian softball team played two full games Thursday at TMP Field.

That didn’t stop the Monarchs from picking up two more wins. TMP moved to 9-3 with a 4-1, 6-0 sweep of visiting Ellinwood, winning for the seventh and eighth straight time in 11 days.

Thursday’s doubleheader began with a two-run first inning for the hosts, proving to be all the Monarchs needed to get the victory for starting pitcher Alison Helget, who pitched a complete game. She threw 107 pitches, striking out 17 batters to just one walk, but did scatter five Ellinwood hits.

The two-run early lead came on a two-RBI double by Bailey Lacy, a 2-1 count she sent to deep center field.

Katelyn Zimmerman and Emily Schulte each drove in a run in the fifth to add to the Monarchs’ lead.

The lone run for Ellinwood was unearned against Helget.

In the nightcap, it was Lacy’s turn in the circle — and she followed suit.

Lacy pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out 16 with no walks on 98 pitches.

The game was scoreless until the third, and it was Helget this time breaking the drought. She doubled a line drive to left field to send in the go-ahead run, part of her 3-for-4 effort with two RBI in the contest. TMP collected 10 hits with seven more Monarchs gaining one hit apiece.

TMP takes its eight-game win streak to Goodland on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
