Area students accept scholarships from FHSU

HAYS, Kan. -- Several area students have accepted scholarships from Fort Hays State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Kali Asher, Granby (67661), a 2007 Phillipsburg High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $300 Nursing Scholarship. Asher is the daughter of Albert and Connie Asher, Granby. She is majoring in nursing.

Shanae Barnes, Hays (67601), a 2007 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU graduate student, accepted a $100 Student Awareness Campaign Scholarship. Barnes is the daughter of Randy and Lisa Barnes, Hays. She is majoring in liberal studies.

Paul Barrientes, Lucas (67648), a 2013 Sylvan/Lucas High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education. Barrientes is the son of Steve and Allison Geist, Lucas. He is majoring in elementary education.

Jaylea Black, Colby (67701), a 2011 Colby High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $1,000 Sociology and Social Work Scholarship. Black is the daughter of Jay and Cindy Black, Colby. She is majoring in social work.

Calie Borthwick, Hays (67601), a 2010 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Borthwick is the daughter of Alan Borthwick, Hays. She is majoring in nursing.

Jenifer Briggs, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Briggs is the daughter of Walt and Mary Briggs, Hays. She plans to major in psychology.

Kelsey Butler, Hays (67601), a 2011 Ellis High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Butler is the daughter of Mike Butler, Hays. She is majoring in education.

Colton Cline, Weskan (67762), a 2013 Weskan High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in history. Cline is the son of Rick and Kirsten Cline, Weskan. He plans to major in history.

Jerry Coleman, WaKeeney (67672), a 2001 Palco High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $100 Student Awareness Campaign Scholarship. Coleman is the son of Shana Coleman, WaKeeney. He is majoring in justice studies.

Leah Crossland, WaKeeney (67672), a 2012 Trego Community High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Adah Howat Scholarship. Crossland is the daughter of Roger Flax, WaKeeney. She is majoring in accounting.

Olivia Davenport, Atwood (67730), a 2006 Rawlins County High School graduate and an FHSU graduate student, accepted a $558 Esther, E.J. & Patricia Spomer Scholarship. Davenport is the daughter of John and Dora Davenport, Atwood. She is majoring in counseling.

Sergio Dolpher, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $4,000 Access to Academic Opportunity Grant and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Dolpher is the son of Maricela Ramirez, Hays. He plans to major in business.

Ashley Dome, Victoria (67671), a 2013 Victoria High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 FHSU Achievement Award. Dome is the daughter of Stuart and Tammy Dome, Victoria. She plans to major in elementary education.

Austin Dusher, Norton (67654), a 2013 Norton High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Dusher is the son of Joel and Lori Dusher, Norton. He plans to major in accounting.

Ryan Engel, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award. Engel is the son of Eric and Claudia Engel, Hays.

Derek Erbert, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $2,400 W.D. Moreland Lewis Field Scholarship. Erbert is the son of Greg and Lisa Erbert, Hays. He plans to major in accounting.

Kyle Ewers, Hoxie (67740), a 2013 Hoxie High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in modern language. Ewers is the son of Bruce and Shannon Ewers, Hoxie. He plans to major in Spanish.

Matthew Frank, Ness City (67560), a 2013 Ness City High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Frank is the son of Kevin and Debbie Frank, Ness City. He plans to major in accounting.

Dalton Gasper, Victoria (67671), a 2011 Victoria High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted an $800 Frank and Wilma Craft Scholarship. Gasper is the son of Troy and Amy Gasper, Victoria. He is majoring in technology studies.

Zack Gaughan, Hays (67601), a 2011 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted an $800 E.E. and Louis Colyer Scholarship Memorial. Gaughan is the son of Mike Gaughan, Hays. He is majoring in physics.

Amanda Groff, Hays (67601), a 2010 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Groff is the daughter of Pam Groff, Hays. She is majoring in banking.

Samantha Hardwick, Hays (67601), a 2010 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Hardwick is the daughter of Daryl Hardwick, Hays. She is majoring in accounting.

Daniel Hill, Kensington (66951), a 2011 Franklin High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $500 Stouffer Scholarship. Hill is the son of David Mankhey, Kensington. He is majoring in music education.

Nicholas Hixon, Plainville (67663), a 2013 Plainville High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in geosciences. Hixon is the son of Troy and Michele Hixon, Plainville. He plans to major in geology.

Taylor Hixon, Plainville (67663), a 2011 Plainville High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Hixon is the daughter of Troy Hixon, Plainville. She is majoring in nursing.

Samantha Hobson, Hays (67601), a 2011 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Hobson is the daughter of Anthony Hobson, Hays. She is majoring in biology.

Shelby Hollern, Ellis (67637), a 2012 Ellis High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Hollern is the daughter of Martin Hollern, Ellis. She is majoring in accounting.

Chandler Hoskins, Athol (66932), a 2013 Thunder Ridge High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Hoskins is the son of Tony and Stacey Epple, Athol. He plans to major in psychology.

Savanna Huff, Russell (67665), a 2013 Russell High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Huff is the daughter of Justin and Natalie Yarmer, Russell. She plans to major in finance.

Tandra Johnson, Hays (67601), a 2012 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Johnson is the daughter of Jamie Gross, Hays. She is majoring in financial planning.

Julia Kent, Norton (67654), a 2013 Norton High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in art and design and a $500 Copper Academic Award. Kent is the daughter of Ron and Nancy Kent, Norton. She plans to major in art.

Kalee Kirmer, Hays (67601), a 2010 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Kirmer is the daughter of Dennis Kirmer, Hays. She is majoring in biology.

Kayla Kitchen, Hays (67601), a 2012 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Kitchen is the daughter of Brenda Kitchen, Hays. She is majoring in radiologic technology.

Samantha Kochanowski, Hays (67601), a 2011 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Kochanowski is the daughter of Amy Bird, Hays. She is majoring in social work.

Amanda Kreutzer, Hays (67601), a 2001 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $500 Michael and Deborah Schmidt Scholarship. Kreutzer is the daughter of Francis Kreutzer, Hays. She is majoring in nursing.

Sarah Leatherman, Bunker Hill (67626), a 2013 Russell High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in communication studies. Leatherman is the daughter of James Leatherman, Canadian, Texas, and Michelle Hoy, Logandale, Nev. She plans to major in communication.

Amythus Lewis, WaKeeney (67672), a 2013 Trego Community High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Lewis is the daughter of Cory and Ashley Garrett, WaKeeney. She plans to major in nursing.

Haley McCain, Atwood (67730), a 2012 Rawlins County High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $100 Student Awareness Campaign Scholarship. McCain is the daughter of Les and Susan McCain, Atwood. She is majoring in ultrasound.

Tara McGuire, Hays (67601), a 2011 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. McGuire is the daughter of Craig McGuire, Hays. She is majoring in radiologic technology.

Christy Moeder, Hays (67601), a 2011 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Moeder is the daughter of John Moeder, Hays. She is majoring in nursing.

Ashley Nease, Hays (67601), a 2012 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Nease is the daughter of Janell Nease, Hays. She is majoring in marketing.

Augustus Nickelson, Penokee (67659), a 2013 Hill City High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in leadership. Nickelson is the son of Steve and Saundra Nickelson, Penokee. He plans to major in organizational leadership.

Hanna Pfannenstiel, Hays (67601), a 2012 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Pfannenstiel is the daughter of Leon Pfannenstiel, Hays. She is majoring in radiologic technology.

Marissa Reed, Quinter (67752), a 2013 Quinter High School graduate, accepted an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Reed is the daughter of Lee and Connie Reed, Quinter. She plans to major in chemistry.

Elizabeth Rhodes, Russell (67665), a 2013 Russell High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in art and design. Rhodes is the daughter of Robert and Sarah Rhodes, Russell. She plans to major in art education.

Chasten Rutherford, Schoenchen (67667), a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in justice studies. Rutherford is the son of John and Audra Teague, Schoenchen. He plans to major in justice studies.

Hunter Scheib, WaKeeney (67672), a 2012 Trego Community High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Adah Howat Scholarship. Scheib is the son of Robert Scheib, Emporia. He is majoring in radiologic technology.

Jenna Schuckman, Hays (67601), a 2013 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Schuckman is the daughter of Darin and Amy Schuckman, Hays. She plans to major in nursing.

Alysia Schwarz, Grinnell (67738), a 2011 Wheatland High School graduate and an FHSU junior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Schwarz is the daughter of Nancy Schwarz, Grinnell. She is majoring in biology.

Kiera Schwarz, Hays (67601), a 2012 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Schwarz is the daughter of Patrick Schwarz, Hays. She is majoring in chemistry.

Marshall Sharp, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award. Sharp is the son of Cliff and Wendy Gallington, Hays. He plans to major in physics.

Maleigha Siglinger-Albers, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in English. Siglinger-Albers is the daughter of Loren Athers, Oakley, and Kimberly Munk, Hays. She plans to major in English.

Cooper Slough, Goodland (67735), a 2013 Goodland High School graduate, accepted an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Slough is the son of Gary and Diana Slough, Goodland. He plans to major in English.

Chyna Smith, Hays (67601), a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $4,000 Access to Academic Opportunity Grant. Smith is the daughter of Regina Smith, Hays. She plans to major in biology.

Scott Voss, Stockton (67669), a 2010 Stockton High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $400 Jerry and Robba Moran Scholarship. Voss is the son of Jon Voss, Stockton. He is majoring in chemistry.

Brookelynne Waller, Stockton (67669), a 2011 Stockton High School graduate and an FHSU sophomore, accepted a $1,000 Pywell Scholarship. Waller is the daughter of Brad and Vicki Waller, Stockton. She is majoring in business education.

Carissa Wickham, Hays (67601), a 2010 Hays High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship. Wickham is the daughter of Robert Wickham, Hays. She is majoring in medical diagnostic imaging.
