By The Hays Daily News
Fort Hays State University President Edward Hammond and representatives from the university’s cable company will demonstrate a new service at a press conference Thursday morning that allows students and faculty to stream live television to their mobile devices.
In 2012, university officials said TV Everywhere, which Hays-based Eagle Communications and FHSU announced more than a year ago, would decouple live television from the physical cable. The technology allows students and faculty to download an application on their smartphone, tablet or computer and watch live television.
At Thursday's press conference, Eagle and FHSU said the service now is called Eagle2Go and will offer 21 channels.
The technology was part of a five-year agreement announced last year between FHSU and Eagle. At the time, only a handful of stations were available on the streaming service.
The price tag for Eagle’s bulk agreement with FHSU, which has about 1,000 units on campus, is $3,900 a month.
Premium channel services can be added by students by a per-month subscription basis.
