Film series to show 'Redskin'

"Redskin" is the next film for the Second Sunday Film Series sponsored by the Heartland Social Justice Commission.
"Redskin" is a 1929 silent film. At that time, Indian children were removed from their homes and placed in boarding schools. This resulted in young people being neither a part of their Indian culture, nor being accepted in the white culture. To the whites they were "redskins." This film explores the resulting conflicts. The film also shows how Indians were given land thought to be useless and how attempts were made to take away their land when valuable minerals and oil were discovered.
The film will be shown at 1:30 p.m. at the Hays Public Library. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.
