Special to The Hays Daily News

The wedding gown exhibit "Wartime Weddings" is on display at the Ellis County Historical Society Museum until Aug. 28.

This year's wedding exhibit will present the distinctive history and apparel of weddings during the 1940s. While weddings had become much more elaborate from those in the 1800s, war rationing called for innovative ways in which to create weddings and their fashions. Visitors will be able to view the dresses, pictures and other wedding related artifacts from Ellis County residents during World War II.

The Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays. The Ellis County Historical Society Museum is located in the historic downtown area of Hays on the corner of Seventh and Main.

Admission is $4 for adults, $1 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for children younger than 3. Admission is free for ECHS members. Research facilities included (weekdays only) in the museum fee.
