Let's find out

Let your child find out about what goes on in our environment. As they learn about friends, pilgrims and Earth Day, they will also be taught five critical early reading skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The kids will have so much fun they won't know that they are learning. This class is once a month for nine months. Entry fee: $2 per class or $18 for nine. Date: Thursday. Time: 9 to 9:45 a.m. Ages: 3 to 5. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10.

Mom's morning out

Moms or dads, it's time to drop off your children and spend some time to yourself or with friends. Children will enjoy the morning doing arts and crafts, playing games, eating snacks and developing social interaction skills with other children. We request children be able to use the restroom by themselves. Entry fee: $5 Date: Friday. Times: 9 to 11 a.m. Ages: 3 to 5. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

Mom and son Valentine dance

Mom, bring out your best dress, have your son(s) put on his best clothes, and come enjoy a special Valentine night made just for you. There will be a dinner, picture, games and music to enjoy. Entry fee: $15 per couple $5 each additional child. Date: Saturday. Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.. Ages: 3 to 9 with an adult. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum 10, maximum 25 couples.

Messy hands

Parents, plan on getting "messy" with your little ones while participating together in a variety of activities using paints, playdough, shaving cream and glue. Entry fee: $3. Date: Feb. 10. Times: 7 to 8 p.m.. Ages: 2 to 5 with an adult. Location: Recreation Center. Limitation: minimum five, maximum 10.

Story Time

Come and join us for a story and activity. We might paint, do a science experiment, play with dough or make a snack. Entry fee: free. Date: Feb. 8. Times: 9:30 to 10 a.m.. Ages: 2 to 4 (2 with an adult). Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

Story time yoga

Telling the story as part of a yoga class and acting it out with yoga poses is a great way for children to use their imagination, which is sometimes lost in our life. Each month we will read a story and finish with a yoga practice using the animals or object from the story. What a great way to introduce your child to both. Entry fee: $2. Date: Feb. 8. Times: 10:15 to 11 a.m.. Ages: 3 to 5. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

Longest tail feather contest

Pheasant hunters galore. Bring the tail feather from your prize bird to the HRC to enter it in our longest tail feather contest. The contest will be through Wednesday. We will display the leading feather throughout the contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate. Note: The winning entry will become the property of the HRC.
