The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.
Open gym hours
Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.
HRC programs take priority over open gym time.
A gym schedule is updated weekly and is available each Friday in the office or on the website.
Come on out and put your basketball skills through this skills competition. Individuals will be tested on dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Entry fee: Free. Date: Saturday. Time: girls, 10 a.m.; boys 11 a.m. Grades: second to seventh grades. Location: HRC. Awards: All contestants receive a T-shirt, plus awards to top three in each grade, and two special awards. Sponsors: Hays Optimist Club and HRC.
Does your child enjoy music and movement? This is the class for you. Your child will enjoy flannel board stories, finger plays and motor games such as Duck, Duck, Goose, Four Corners and many more. Come and spend time with your child or drop them off to run an errand. Entry fee: $10. Dates: Wednesdays, March 13 to April 3. Time: 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Ages: 2 to 4 with an adult. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.
Join us for a story and cooking project. Let your child learn basic cooking skills, including recipe reading and ingredient measuring while building fun in the kitchen. This once-a-month activity will be a delight for any child. Entry fee: $3. Date: March 11. Time: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Ages: 2 to 5 with an adult. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.
Bring your child and design murals, make prints, and experiment with fluffy goop using water colors and bio color paints. Enjoy painting up a lot of creations while leaving the mess behind. Entry fee: $3. Date: March 14. Time: 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Ages: 5 to 11. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.
Challenge fun run
Put your mind and body to the test -- this race will consist of a two-person relay team, a 2-mile run with various tasks along the way. These challenges could be mental as well as physical, so come out to join us for a fun morning workout for your brains and your body. Entry fee: $15 before Wednesday, $20 after. Date: Saturday. Location: Dusty Glassman Ballfields, Fourth and Milner. Registration at 9:15 a.m. Races begins at 10 a.m.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast while trying your luck with a few games of bingo. Win a prize or just have fun. Entry fee: $5. Date: March 11. Time: 9 to 10 a.m. Ages: 55 and older. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.
