The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

Wednesday deadline

Pottery and books

Pottery and reading, what a great combination. This program will start off with a book, followed by painting a piece of pottery that relates to the story. Kids will have a great time using their imagination to create a storybook character or related idea. Entry fee: $13. Date: Sept. 10. Time: 1 to 2 p.m. Ages: 3 and older with an adult. Location: Pottery Works, 126 W. Ninth. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 10. Instructor: Pam Fellers.

Special Pops: Build a sundae

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Are you up for a good old-fashioned ice cream social? Bring your bowl, and we will supply the ice cream to build a sundae. Entry fee: $2. Date: Sept. 12. Time: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ages: All ages. Location: HRC. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 15.

Upcoming event

Second annual Blaine Billinger Celebration Run/Walk

RUN. Remember. Celebrate. This is a trail run/walk that includes a 1-mile celebration walk, timed 5K and timed 10K. Register online at www.bbscout.org. Time: Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Runners start at 8:55 a.m. Walkers start at 9 a.m. Date: Saturday. Location: Fourth and Milner. Race goes on rain or shine. Registration fee: 1-mile celebration walk, $15; timed 5K, $25; timed 10K, $30; kids 13 and younger, free. After Wednesday, fees increase by $5. Online registration closes at 10 a.m. Friday. Late registration available on race day from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.

Fall-winter Hays Rec Times

The Fall Winter Hays Rec Times will be in Ellis County mailboxes Friday. Online registration begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday. In-office registration begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 9. The website will be updated the first week of September.
