HRC office hours

The HRC office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

Fall/winter open gym hours

8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday

8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

1 to 5 p.m. Sunday

HRC programs take priority over open gym time. A gym schedule is updated weekly and is available each Friday in the office or on the Web page.

Upcoming events

City Lights Sleigh Ride

Join the family on a horse-drawn wagon as we see the streets of Hays light up. Enjoy hot chocolate, hot cider and cookies as well. Bring your blankets and enjoy the cozy ride. Tickets on sale Tuesday Nov. 3 to Friday, Dec. 11. Entry fee: $3 per person, 3 and under free. Date: Saturday, December 12. Time: Pick ride time when you buy tickets - Rides start at 6 p.m. and go every 15 minutes till 8:45 p.m.. Location: Purchase tickets at the Recreation Center. Rides depart from Roosevelt School - 2000 MacArthur Road

Wednesday deadline

Kids' concoctions

Bring your child and learn how to make fun, easy, snacks and crafts, all the while learning about science. These silly creations can be repeated at home, as all the ingredients are common household items. Help your children explore and learn as they create their own concoction. Entry fee: $5. Date: Thursday. Time and ages: Time A, 10 to 10:45 a.m., 2 with an adult; Time B, 11 to 11:45 a.m., 3 to 5. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

Babysitter's training

The course gives participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants through school-aged children. Topics include safety issues, preventing injuries and illness, basic child care, first aid, rescue breathing, care for choking and age-appropriate behavior. Each participant will receive a handbook, snack and other resources. Bring your own sack lunch. Entry fee: $25. Date: Saturday. Times: 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. Ages: 11 to 15. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum five, maximum 12.

Guys' night

Come and kick it with the boys. This is a good time to come hang with all of your guy friends and do what guys do: play poker and video games while enjoying pizza and soda. Entry fee: $6. Date: Friday. Times: 6 to 8 p.m.. Ages: 11 to 14. Location: Recreation Center. Limitations: minimum 10, maximum 20.

Biddy basketball

Come and be a part of this exciting basketball league. Through practices and games, the fundamental skills of the game, educational drills and organized games will all be introduced. Entry fee: $25. Practice begins week of Dec. 14. Play will begin Jan. 9. Grade divisions: fourth and fifth girls, sixth and seventh girls, fourth boys, fifth boys, sixth and seventh boys. Location: Recreation Center. Coaches' meeting: 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in Gym 3.

Adult women's and men's basketball leagues

Form your teams now and come be a part of this basketball league. This league will be an open division (participants are allowed to play on only one team). Entry fee: $300 per team payable by team or sponsor. Date: Sundays Ssarting Nov. 15. Ages: Teams formed (16 and older). Location: Recreation Center and HRC 13th Street Gym.

Group fitness schedule

Class schedules and descriptions can be seen online at www.haysrec.org. All classes are drop-in classes for $2 per class. Punch cards can be purchased at the HRC office for $20 for 12 punches. * Low Impact, 8:10 to 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

* Cardio Max, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

* Zumba, 6:35 to 7:25 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

* Step Interval, 4:30 to 5:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

* Yoga, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

* Pilates, 6:15 to 7:10 p.m. Wednesdays.

* Pilates, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fridays.

* Cardio Combo, 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Fridays.

* Step-On-Up, 8:10 to 9 a.m. Fridays.

Senior fitness classes

All classes are drop-in classes and are $1 per session.

* Senior Sit and Be Fit, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday

* Arthritis Foundation exercise, 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
