PLAINVILLE -- "We should be paid to make it rain," joked Plainville Saddle Club President Gail Becker.

Just a week after having fought through 31âÑ2 inches of rain for the rodeo, Plainville Saddle Club members hoped they could hold off another round of rain a few more hours to finish the Kansas Foundation Quarter Horse Registry Affiliate Show June 20.

"We finished all the cattle classes with just a light drizzle," said Teresa Webb, Plainville Saddle Club member and show host. "But after lunch, we were pretty much riding under a constant light rain."

According to Webb, the show was cut short when the arena became too slippery to continue safely.

Winning the open division was Steve Wesley of Salina, riding Little Peppy Thunder; second place was Mike Webb of Natoma riding Mr. Peppys CD; and third was Geff Dawson of Alma riding Red Buck Zanawho.

High point for the amateur division was a three-way tie broken by show officials into the following placings; first place, Lori Ferguson of Agra riding SV Grace Bee Easy; second place, Scott Barnhart of Hesston riding Meradas Candy Bears; and third place, Teresa Webb of Natoma riding Just Plain Master.

In the youth division, high point went to Molly Schleicher of Stockton riding Zips Good to Go; placing second was Billie Chesney of Woodston riding Sam; and third was Mesa Eckroat of Hays riding Miss Quitote Socks.

Class winners received rosettes, while buckles were awarded for high-point winners of the open and amateur divisions. High point was not awarded participants in the non-member classes.

The next KFQHRA show will be Aug. 22 in Medicine Lodge. The national show will be Sept. 11 to 13 in Lincoln, Neb., followed by the Kansas State Show Oct. 23 to 25 in Kingman.
