The Hays Larks got home run happy Saturday night, taking advantage of a breezy evening at Larks Park.

Hays belted out six home runs to put up a 13-2 victory against the visiting Haysville Aviators, pushing the Larks’ record to 7-4 overall and 7-3 in Jayhawk League play. Four of the home runs came in the first three innings as the Larks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three, then eventually led 13-0 going into the eighth.

Clayton Rasbeary, Trevor Boone, Colin Simpson, Spencer Packard, Jacob Boston and Mikey Gangwish all went deep as Rasbeary and Simpson each finished with three RBI. The six homers accounted for nearly half of the Larks’ 14 hits. Haysville dropped to 5-8.

Walter Pennington got the start and the win, pitching five scoreless innings. He gave up three hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Heading into today’s 7 p.m. series finale at Larks Park, Hays sits third in the league behind Liberal (9-3) and Derby (8-4). After today’s finale, the Larks hit the road for three games at El Dorado beginning Tuesday, then are back home for three this weekend with Derby.
