Marva Lee Stanberry of Hays was recognized for seven years of service as a Senior Companion at the Feb. 4 inservice meeting at Sternberg Museum of Natural History. Stanberry serves in private homes and at St John's Healthcare Center.

Senior Companions volunteer their time to assist persons who need assistance to remain independent. Their help in long-term care settings improves the quality of life for many. They help with tasks of daily living as well as provide respite care for family caregivers. There is no cost for the services provided.

The Senior Companion Program is sponsored by Fort Hays State University and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Funds are also provided by Ellis County.
