Larks win rain-shortened game

By The Hays Daily News

The Hays Larks took an early lead and held on for a 7-3 Jayhawk League win in a rain-shortened game Saturday night at Larks Park.

The game was called after seven innings because of rain.

Blake Johnston picked up the win in relief of starter Justin Ziegler and Ryan Mas.  Johnston pitched three innings, giving up one hit with three strikeouts.

Zair Koeiman and Austin Darby each homered in the game, while Mackenzie Handel was 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Darby was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. He led off the seventh inning with his solo home run. The game was delayed and eventually called.

The win pushes the Larks to 16-8 overall and 10-8 in Jayhawk League play as the Larks go for a sweep in a 7 p.m. game Sunday at Larks Park.
