Adolph Joseph Bollig

Adolph Joseph Bollig, 94, Roeland Park, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home.

He was born April 25, 1915, in Victoria to Peter and Anna Bollig. He grew up in Victoria and attended St. Joseph's Military Academy and Fort Hays State College.

He served as the county clerk for Ellis County before moving to the Kansas City area with his wife, Bertha Bollig. He was a teacher, an office manager for Great Western Paint Co., a business relocation specialist for the Urban Renewal Agency and an accountant. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in the Pacific Theater in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska with the Signal Corps. He attained the rank of sergeant and received an honorable discharge in November 1945.

He was a member of the Thomas More Prep-Alumni Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Agnes Church and was an usher for the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday evenings.

He was an avid sports fan and a devoted follower of Notre Dame football, the Boston Celtics, the New York Yankees and the Bishop Miege Stags. He was a baseball coach for his son, Richard, with teams in Johnson County 3 & 2 baseball league for five years, and he helped his grandson, David, while he played baseball in the Johnson County 3 & 2 league.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Bollig and wife, Nancy; two daughters, Maryann Williams and Judy Sheridan; a sister, Katie Dreiling; four grandchildren, Janet Storey and husband, John, David Williams, Christopher Bollig and Daniel Bollig; three step-grandchildren, Courtney, Michael and Eric Luschen; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Storey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church; burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McGilley and Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park.

A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
