Alan J. 'Barney' Roberts

Alan J. "Barney" Roberts, 63, Wichita, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his home.

He was a 1972 graduate of Fort Hays State University.

He was a golfer and business owner. He worked for Brown-Williamson for nearly 20 years and started and operated many other businesses through the years.

He enjoyed all sports including baseball, basketball and golf. For fun, he was a high school and college football and basketball referee for many years.

He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a son, Aaron Roberts; two daughters, Kristin Roberts Conrad and Ashley Roberts; his mother, Rita Roberts; his siblings, Kaylon, Denis, Larry, Ronald and Daniel Roberts and Lucinda Miller; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Roberts; and his father, Edmond Roberts.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

A rosary will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Downing & Lahey Mortuary West, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
