Drew Riedel has joined the staff of Document Resources Inc. as the company's western region sales and operations manager. He will be based in Hays and will be responsible for business development and operations for the western half of Kansas. An Ellis County native, Riedel is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and graduate of Fort Hays State University.

Laura Sadeghi, Adele Shaver and Errol Wuertz of Help-U-Sell of Hays Real Estate, recently attended a two day seminar on Ninja selling and business systems sponsored by the Kansas Association of Realtors. The seminars were designed to improve service realtors give to buyers and sellers of real estate. The seminar was attended by 200 professional realtors from Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.

Dr. Dan Schmidt, Hays, and paraoptometrics Pam Krankenburg, Lona Brown and Nicole Rich recently attended the 47th annual Heart of America Contact Lens and Primary Care Congress -- one of the largest contact lens and primary eye care conferences. Topics included new and advanced techniques for all types of contact lenses, plus the latest information on medical treatment of the eye diseases, glaucoma management and new innovations in enhancing patients' vision. Schmidt has been an active member of the Heart of America Contact Lens Society for 20 years is an alumnus of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. His office is at 625 E. Eighth.

Fort Hays State University has won a Merit Award for its 2007-2008 admissions viewbook in the 23rd annual Admissions Advertising Awards. The international awards competition is produced by Admissions Marketing Report. The viewbook was written by Tricia Cline, admissions director, admissions staff, and Casey Rackaway, academic marketing director. The design was by Mary Ridgway, University Relations art director.

Commercial Builders Inc. and Glassman Corp. of Hays received awards at last month's 74th annual Associated General Contractors of Kansas convention in Topeka. Commercial Builders was honored for its work at W.R. and Yvonne Robbins Center on the campus of Fort Hays State University Foundation. Glassman received an Award of Excellence, also for the Robbins Center.

Ronald Chartier has joined the staff at Sunflower Electric Power Corp. as tariff administrator in the finance department. Chartier graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting major. In 2004, he received a minor in computer information systems.

Chris McGowne, formerly of Hays, has been employed as the reading clerk/administrative assistant to the secretary of the Colorado Statehouse. His responsibilities include the reading of all bills, amendments and roll calls in the Senate, as well as archiving legislation. McGowne is a 2007 graduate of Hays High School, a 2007 graduate from University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, with a double major in political science and history. He is working on his master's in political science from UCCS.

Whitney Duscher joiend the staff of The Hays Daily News circulation department as a district manager. The St. Francis native is a graduate of Hays High School.

Cherise Schaeffer, radiologic technologist with Hutchinson Hospital and 2007 graduate of Fort Hays State University, has passed board examination with American Registry of Radiologic technologists. The credential entitles her to be registered in computed tomography. She has been with the hospital for nine months.

Gabe Jamison, Joseph Shaver and Nathaniel Toon last month were promoted to the Kansas site's IT service desk technician team at N.E.W.¬ Jamison, a Hays native, has worked for N.E.W. since 2005 as a program specialist.¬ He also works part-time as a web developer in the University Relations Department at FHSU, where he is currently working toward a degree in INT. Shaver, of Schoenchen, has worked for N.E.W. for two years as a customer service representative.¬ Toon, also of Hays, has worked with the company for two years as a program specialist. ¬ ¬

Charles Gnizak, associate professor of accounting at Fort Hays State University, has published an article, "The More-Likely-Than-Not Standard," in the winter 2008 edition of TaxPro Journal, the quarterly magazine for tax professionals.

Fort Hays State University recently added the following new faculty and staff: Tony Andenoro, assistant professor in the Department of Leadership Studies; Carol Borchers, instructor in the Department of Teacher Education; Daniel Hrabe, instructor in the Department of Justice Studies; Harrolyn Johnson, program specialist in the Department of Nursing; Jennifer Kuner, operations administrative specialist in the Kansas Small Business Development Center; Amanda Stinemetz, assistant director in the intensive English as a Second Language program; Anne Woods, assistant director of marketing and training in the Kansas Small Business Development Center.

Mike Zimmerman, Hays, recently celebrated the beginning of his 10th year of employment with Lang Diesel Inc. He began in 1998 as a salesman and later was promoted to the position of general sales manager. Lang has locations in Hays, Smith Center, Colby, Ellinwood and Sabetha.

Charles Krull, group consultant for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, recently received the company's President's Award for his sales performance in 2007. Krull, who joined the company in 1989, works from the company's district office in Hays and markets BCBSKS products to businesses throughout northwest Kansas.
