KSHSAA announces classification changes

By The Hays Daily News

New classifications were released this morning by the Kansas State High School Activities Association, and one of the biggest changes comes of the Hays High School football team.

With the split of Class 4A into two divisions, Hays High now will play in Class 4A Division I, instead of 5A in 2014 and 2015.

The Indians are among three 5A teams that will compete in 4A Division I.

For all other sports this season, Hays High remains in Class 5A as the smallest 5A school among 32.

Other area changes for football in 2014 include: Phillipsburg moving to Class 2-1A, Logan-Palco to Eight-Man Division I, St. Francis to Eight-Man Division I from Class 2-1A (11-man), Oberlin-Decatur Community to Eight-Man Division I (from Class 2-1A (11-man)) and Hoxie from Eight-Man Division I to Division II. Stockton moves from Eight-Man Division II to Division I.

In all other sports the remainder of this school year, Russell moves to 4A from 3A, Atwood-Rawlins County moves from 1A to 2A, WaKeeney-Trego from 1A to 2A.
