Archeology training series set for next week

SCOTT CITY -- The Kansas Archeology Training Program, free and open to the public, are scheduled at various location next week, weather permitting.

Kicking off the series is a presentation, "El Quartelejo Pueblo" by Tom Witty, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Community High School. Witty served as state archeologist for 34 years.

Collectors Night will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the high school. Archaeolgists will be present to view artifacts and collections brought in for identification.

Keysone Gallery owner Chuck Bonner, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gallery on U.S. Highway 83, north of Scott City. His knowledge of the local fossil beds is exceptional.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, participants will tour the El Quartelejo Museum with Denny Siegrist. A museum donations is suggested.

Brian Bartels of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will present "Kansas Critters" at 7:30 p.m. June 6 at Scott State Park, north of the bathhouse.

At 7 p.m. June 7, beginning at Scott Lake State Park headquarters, guides Denny Siegrist, Jerry Snyder and Larry Hoeme will conduct a tour of Monument Rocks.

"Battle of Punished Woman Fork" will be hosted by Jerry Snyder on at 7 p.m. June 8. The presentation begins at the park headquarters, then will retrace some of the battle route, one of the last military and American-Indian skirmishes.
