Custer author will sign books at museum

Special to The Hays Daily News

Jeff Broome, a philosophy professor at Arapahoe County Community College in Littleton, Colo., will autograph copies of his books and present an illustrated program on Gen. George Armstrong Custer and the Indian Wars on the Great Plains at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Ellis County Historical Society, 100 W. Seventh.

His publication "Custer Into the West" covers the boy general in Kansas after the Civil War (including the Fort Hays area).

Broome also will discuss his book "Dog Soldier Justice," which deals with the captivity of Susanna Alderdice in Kansas and the attempt to rescue her at the 1869 Battle of Summit Springs in Colorado.

Additionally, Broome is working on a new volume about Wild Bill Hickok in Hays, specifically the 1870 saloon brawl with troopers of the 7th Cavalry.

The event is free. For further information, call (785) 628-2624 or email visitors@elliscountyhistoricalsociety.org.
