Driver injured when semi rolls

A truck driver was injured after he swerved to avoid a deer at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday on Michaelis Road, approximately 11 miles south of Russell.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2003 Freightliner driven by Shelby L. Stone Jr., 52, Great Bend, was eastbound on Michaelis Road when the deer entered the roadway. Stone attempted to avoid the animal, partially entering the ditch and rolling the semi, coming to rest on the driver's side.

Stone, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Russell Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.
