Hammond embarks on '12 tour

Special to The Hays Daily News

Fort Hays State University President Edward H. Hammond will tour Kansas from Monday through Nov. 30 to expand on the theme that "Average is Over" as universities face new challenges in a tight economy.

With financial support for higher education declining in states all across the nation, universities must find innovative ways to achieve excellence in order to meet the increasing needs of the people they serve. He will give examples of "average busters" at FHSU -- initiatives designed to achieve excellence at FHSU and provide the enhanced education opportunities Kansans need.

During his annual weeklong media tour, Hammond will visit newspapers, radio and TV stations, and with community leaders, alumni and friends of the university in Kansas City, Kan., Kansas City, Mo., Overland Park, Olathe, Topeka, Clay Center, Salina, Hutchinson, Great Bend, Wichita, Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, Goodland, Colby, Oberlin and Hays.
