Tigers pull away from Aggies

The Fort Hays State University men's basketball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead Saturday, and never trailed en route to a 98-74 win over visiting Oklahoma-Panhandle State University at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Tigers, ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II, move to 5-0 with the victory and will travel Tuesday for a game in the NABC Classic at 2 p.m. against Rockhurst University at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Oklahoma-Panhandle fell to 0-5.

The Tigers led by as many as 16 in the first half, but Panhandle narrowed the margin to near single digits before the Tigers pulled away again for an 18-point halftime lead. Panhandle cut the lead again, this time to eight points with 8:38 remaining in the game. But, FHSU outscored the Aggies 27-11 the rest of the way.

Carson Konrade led all scorers Saturday. The senior from Spearville by way of Colby Community College, scored a career-high 26 points on a hot-shooting night. Konrade hit 8 of 14 from the field, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range, and was 5 for 5 on free throw attempts. Dwayne Brunson was solid as well.

He recorded his fourth straight double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Craig Nicholson and Jared Tadlock also reached double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Tigers shot 53.1 percent from the floor, including a 10 of 20 effort from 3-point range and they were 20 of 23 on free throws.
