Tiger volleyball season ends in Topeka

TOPEKA - The Fort Hays State University volleyball team's season ended Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to Washburn University, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, in the first round of the MIAA tournament. Fort Hays lost 25-21, 22-25, 29-27, 25-19.

The Tigers were the No. 7 seed in the eight-team tournament, while Washburn was the second seed. Fort Hays finished the season at 23-14 overall, 7-10 MIAA.

The Tigers hit .190 as a team. Junior outside hitter Madison Schwartz finished with 17 kills and a .161 hitting percentage, while sophomore right side Taylor Mares collected 16 kills and a .289 hitting percentage. Junior libero Makenzie Weinman had 29 digs, while setter Kayla Zoglman - the lone senior who played significantly for Fort Hays this season - had 50 assists. Marissa Cox led Washburn with 27 kills and a .641 hitting percentage.
