An Ellis County employee filed this week for the office of Ellis County Treasurer.

Ann Pfeifer, who serves as accounting manager and has worked with the county treasurer’s office since November 2010, said her interest in accounting and working with money led her to pursue the treasurer’s position.

Currently residing in Ellis, Pfeifer grew up in Hays, graduating from Fort Hays State in 2007 with bachelor’s degree in accounting, a minor in math and a leadership studies certificate. She filed as a Democrat.

County Treasurer Mickey Billinger, who has held the position for 37 years, announced he will not run for re-election.

“I have always liked numbers and have been good at working with numbers,” Pfeifer said. “And the fact that Mick decided to retire now ... now is the opportunity to run.
