Freeman winds up with N.Y. Giants

(MCT) --  Eli Manning might have a new No. 2.

Quarterback Josh Freeman agreed to terms with the Giants on Wednesday. The deal, which was confirmed on Twitter by his agent, Erik Burkhardt, reportedly is for one year.

Freeman visited the Giants on Tuesday, along with Matt Flynn, and will compete for the No. 2 job with Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib. Flynn re-joined the Packers on Wednesday.

Manning, of course, is the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future. But the Giants were on the lookout for a healthy veteran quarterback with their offseason training program set to begin Monday.

Manning, their two-time Super Bowl MVP, is expected to be sidelined for six weeks following an arthroscopic procedure on his left ankle last week. He injured the ankle in the final game of last season.
