HHS girls fall to 0-10, prepare for tourney

DODGE CITY -- The tough run in the Western Athletic Conference continued Tuesday for the winless Hays High School girls' basketball team.

The Indians fell down 20-6 after one quarter, then eventually lost 71-28 to fall to 0-10 for the season heading into next week's 19th McPherson Mid-America Classic.

Sophomore Audra Schmeidler led the Indians Tuesday with six points, while senior Haley Wells added seven and junior Brooke Russell five. Dodge City got 17 points from Katrina Roenfeldt, and moved to 4-4, 1-2 in WAC play. Hays High is 0-4 at the halfway point in its WAC schedule.

The Indians' first-round game in the tournament is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 30 against Manhattan. The Manhattan Indians are 8-1 with one game left to play before the tourney begins, and are ranked No. 5 in Class 6A.
