HHS golf fifth in McPherson

McPHERSON — The Hays High School boys’ golf team opened its varsity season on Thursday at the McPherson Invitational, taking fifth out of 14 teams at the Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Junior Nathan Romme was the lone medalist (top 15) for the Indians, taking 11th with an 11-over par 81. Senior Lane Clark finished in a tie for 17th after shooting an 83, senior Kaden Beilman tied for 25th with an 84, and sophomore Payton Ruder tied for 34th with an 86.
Senior Chase Lynd and junior Cash Hobson also competed, each shooting 90 to tie for 44th.
Buhler won the overall team title with 315 points, followed by Hutchinson (316), Derby (319), Sterling (319), and Hays High (333). Hutchinson’s Turner Wintz won the individual title with his 1-over 71.
The Indians will next compete at Garden City on Saturday.
