Hays High soccer finishes fifth with win

MAIZE -- The Hays High boys' soccer team defeated Independence 4-2 on Saturday to take fifth place at the Maize South Invitational.

Trailing 1-0 after the fourth minute, the Indians took a 2-1 lead into the half after goals by Nathan Romme and Eirik Legernes. The lead would get to 4-1 in the second half with goals by Romme and Shawn Hermann.

Independence scored in the 75th minute and again with only a minute remaining in the contest.

Hays High plays at Great Bend this afternoon and will host Dodge City on Thursday in its first home game of the season.
