HHS wrestlers drop dual to Dodge

DODGE CITY -- The Hays High School wrestling team lost 47-27 in a dual at Dodge City High School, ranked No. 10 in Class 6A, on Tuesday. The Indians big three of Preston Weigel, Ethan Deterding and Vincent Scott all came away with wins in their respective matches.

Weigel, Class 5A's top-ranked wrestler at 195 pounds, defeated Dodge City's Jacob Harshberger via a fall in 1 minute, 11 seconds. Deterding, ranked No. 3 at 182 pounds in Class 5A, won 4-0 over Jhett Ostrom with points coming from a takedown in the first period and a reversal in the third period. Scott, the No. 3 heavyweight in Class 5A, defeated Brennon Tate in 1:35 via a fall.

Hays High next competes at home on Jan. 23 against Thomas More Prep-Marian, the night before the Indians host the the Bob Kuhn Prairie Senior Classic.
