HHS XC opens season

The Hays High cross country team opened its season on Thursday in Great Bend, with the boys taking fourth and the girls fifth as teams.

Marie Reveles was the top overall finisher for the Hays High girls and their only varsity medalist, taking ninth with a time of 17 minutes, 30 seconds. Haley George was the other top-20 finisher, taking 18th with a time of 18 minutes, 42 seconds. Alyssa Bryant was the top junior varsity finisher, medaling in seventh place with a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds.

The Indian girls finished with a team score of 107. Garden City took first with 18, followed by Ellinwood's 65, and Liberal and Great Bend's 103.

The Indian boys were led by varsity medalist Zachary Hopp, a freshman, who took 14th with a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds.

Seniors Hunter Bizzell and Landon Munsch also recorded top-20 finishes.

Liberal took the overall team title, followed by Ellinwood and Great Bend.

Hays High will next travel to the Swather Invitational in Hesston on Sept. 12.
