Lucille 'Lucy' Desmarteau Fischer
Lucille "Lucy" Desmarteau Fischer, 87, formerly of Hays and Damar, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Salina Regional Hospital.
She was born May 4, 1923, in Zurich to Wilfred and Cecilia (Gagnon) Thyfault.
She married Alverize Desmarteau on Nov. 18, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Dahna Fischer in 1988, and they resided in Ellis for many years. He preceded her in death in 1994. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed baking, quilting, and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Hays, All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita, Daughters of Isabella and actively was involved with Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home in Hays.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Desmarteau, Wichita, and Lee Desmarteau and wife, Barbara, Golden, Colo.; three daughters, Phyllis Meis and husband, Paul, and Marge Huelsmann, all of Salina, and Louetta McCoy and husband, Mick, Loveland, Colo.; seven stepsons; three stepdaughters; five brothers; two sisters; 11 grandchildren, Karen Steele and husband, Jim, Kris Meis and wife, Shannon, Kelly Meis and wife, Dawn, Brad Huelsmann and wife, Jennifer, Bruce Huelsmann and wife, Sheri, Brent Huelsmann and wife, Jennifer, Brenda McKim and husband, Darrin, Wendy Messmer and husband, Dennis, Derek McCoy and wife, Sheila, Charise Oelger and husband, Denny, and Michelle Desmarteau; 21 stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 40 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Galen, and a sister, Alfreda Virgason.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.
A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by vigil at 6 p.m., both at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in care of the funeral home.
