Marcel Joseph Pfeifer
Marcel Joseph Pfeifer, 89, Hays, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Trego Manor, WaKeeney.
He was born June 16, 1920, in Ellis County to Alexander and Theresa (Sack) Pfeifer.
He married Erma Mae Mills in December 1946 in Seguin. He was a farmer and stockman in Sheridan County. Prior to military service, he was a cook at Lamar Hotel, Hays, where he served Shirley Temple breakfasts. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and received a Bronze Star during his service in the Aleutian Islands.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, and served as a church deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Erma, Victoria; a son, Brent Pfeifer, Dallas; six daughters, Linda Deines and husband, Dan, and Brenda Bell and husband, Ron, all of Manhattan, Marcella Bailey and husband, Glen, Dodge City, Theresea Reeves and husband, Jim, Oberlin, Roberta Eberle and husband, Ted, Glen Elder and Shirley Logsdon and husband, Max, Emporia; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Pfeifer; three brothers, Louis, Fred and Gene Pfeifer; and two sisters, Geraldine Needham and Martina Pfeifer “Sister Vita.”
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Family will be present to greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
