Richard Dean Leighton

Richard Dean Leighton, 65, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Hays, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, in Tucson.

He was born March 15, 1944, in Quinter to Samuel B. and Caroline (Bieker) Leighton. He was a 1962 graduate of Victoria High School.

He was a security guard at Securitas Security Co. in Tucson.

Survivors include a brother, Lawrence Leighton and wife, Ruby, Norman, Okla.; a sister, Karen Jane Belden and husband, William, Lenexa; two nephews, Tim Leighton, Charlotte, N.C., and William Belden Jr., Kansas City, Mo.; three nieces, Tammy Leighton, Norman, Okla., Tonya Moddelmog and husband, Craig, Fort Collins, Colo., and Kris Belden-Adams and husband, John, Olathe; a great-nephew, C.J. Moddelmog, Fort Collins, Colo.; and two great-nieces, Elizabeth Ann Moddelmog, Fort Collins, Colo., and Lily Adams, Olathe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Grover and Mae (Hair) Leighton; maternal grandparents, Frank and Emma (Herman) Bieker; and a nephew, Kevin Leighton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with parish vigil services at 6:30 p.m. at Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home, 2509 Vine.
