Plainville, La Crosse to meet for sub-state title

By The Hays Daily News
JOHNSON CITY — The Plainville High School football team scored just six points in the second quarter, but that was all that was needed Friday night as the Cardinals upended Johnson-Stanton County 6-0 for the Class 2-1A regional championship. The Cardinals (11-1) move on to next Friday's Class 2-1A sub-state championship game, and will host La Crosse in a rematch of a Week 9 matchup, won by the Leopards, 14-8.

La Crosse, now 12-0, was a 21-12 winner over defending 2-1A champion Meade in another quarterfinal Friday night. The Leopards got a big running night from senior quarterback Tayler Stull, and held on for the victory. Meade was ranked No. 1 in the statewide media poll, and La Crosse No. 3

In eight-man action, the Thunder Ridge Longhorns will play in next Saturday's Eight-Man, Division II State Championship after defeating last year's runner-up Otis-Bison, 54-26, in Otis on Friday. The Longhorns await the winner between Baileyville B&B, the defending state champion, and unbeaten South Haven. Thunder Ridge is 12-0 on the year.

Osborne suffered a 42-38 loss to unbeaten South Gray in Osborne on Friday, ending the Bulldogs' season at 10-2 in the Eight-Man, Division I sub-state title game. South Gray will take on Madison/Hamilton, a 52-6 winner over Downs-Lakeside on Friday in Madison. Lakeside ended its season at 11-1.
