Sister Francis Rose Dinkel

Sister Francis Rose Dinkel CSA, Isabella Dinkel, died on September 4, 2013, at St. Francis Home. She died peacefully while sleeping, with a smile on her face. Sister Francis Rose was born in Victoria, KS, on January 17, 1925, to Frank and Rosa (Hertel) Dinkel. Sister was one of fifteen children, ten girls and five boys.

Sister Francis Rose graduated from Victoria High School and attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas in preparation for elementary teaching. She then taught 2 years at Wheatland country school southeast of Munjor, Kansas, and then three years at Victoria Grade School. Then in 1950 she entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

She made first profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August 15, 1953. Sister started her ministry with CSA in Holy Family Orphans' Home, Marquette, MI, as housemother for older boys. She was a teacher for 35 years in Kansas (Ellis, Munjor and Hays) and Wisconsin.

Upon retiring from teaching, she ministered as homemaker at St. Mary's in Decatur, IN; later she worked in parish ministry at St. Michaels, AZ, and at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays, Kansas.

In addition to her professional life, Sister was skilled in crafts and spent significant time restoring and upholstering furniture for various CSA ministries.

Survivors include two brothers, George Dinkel and wife, Mary Ann, Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap., both of Victoria, KS; four sisters, Irene Scruggs, Manhattan, KS; Mary Younker and husband, Walter, Antonino, KS; Viola Richmeier, Grinnell, KS; Sister Paul Ann Dinkel, C.S.A., Hays, KS; two brothers-in-law, Delbert Rohr, Wichita, KS; and Paul Griebel, Hays, KS; and by the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Hilarius, Clarence, Edward Dinkel; five sisters, Julitta Dechant, Bertha Prewo, Regina Dechant, Rita Rohr, Melinda Griebel, and two infant siblings.

A visitation for Sister Francis Rose was held at Nazareth Court and a Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis Home Chapel on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. Burial will be in the Sisters of St. Agnes plots at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

A vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Sisters of St. Agnes Development Office, in care of the mortuary.

The Sisters of St. Agnes are grateful to the nurses and staff of Nazareth Court and Center/St. Francis Home for their care of Sister Francis Rose, as well as to the staff of Hospice Hope.
