Special Olympics cancels some events

Some events for the Special Olympics basketball tournament this weekend have been canceled because of weather forecasts, said Tim Rehder, Special Olympics senior vice president of sports.

Tonight's opening ceremony will go on as planned at 7:30 p.m. at Gross Memorial Coliseum, and Friday's scheduled games will be played.

However, the banquet and dance Friday evening and Saturday's games are canceled.

Awards, based on the two games played Friday, will be given at approximately 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Rehder said forecasts are calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow along Interstate 70 by Saturday.

"We hope it's a good call," he said.
