William M. Ross

William M. Ross, 88, Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Hays, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1925, in Farmington, Ill. Following the war, he attended the University of Illinois where he earned his degree in agronomy.

He started working at Fort Hays Kansas Experiment Station in 1951 with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In 1969, he transferred to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he continued his work as a geneticist and professor of agronomy. During World War II, he served in the VI Corp 7th Army in Germany and France.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Joyce R. (Yost) Ross; four daughters; a son; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.

His body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska.
